Sam Strong
Recreation and Open Spaces Planner
I have worked in the sport and recreation management field for just over 10 years. During this time, I have worked across both the public and not- for-profit sectors working in Canada and New Zealand, creating youth and adult recreation programming opportunities, with a focus on community connection, program development, and event management.
Having worked in both Canada and New Zealand, I have experience in programme development, needs and gaps assessments, plan changes and re-consenting applications, strategy development, business cases, funding, and have been involved in facilitating community-led initiatives and stakeholder collaboration.
My focus is to ensure that across NZ the provision of open space is being advocated for, providing quality and functional multipurpose reserves for communities to enjoy for decades. My goal is helping our clients exceed the needs of their communities and connecting people with the environment.
I am the current Event Coordinator of the New Zealand Parks Leaders Forum, the Secretary for the Otago/Southland RA Regional Committee, and a member of Generate. Through these roles I aim am able to create positive working relationships with our clients, helping them to see future project potential, and having an innovative, outside-the-box problem solving style, is well respected and a key strength.
I am continuing to broaden my knowledge within the parks sector as I am currently undertaking my Masters in Parks Management at Lincoln University.
